About Us
James Murphy and his family have been involved in the leisure and
entertainment industry
for over 100 years.
Starting on the fairgrounds of England in the 1800's
James' great grandparents travelled the UK with their shows, performing for
thousands of people.
Their story has been published as a book by Frances Brown, called "Fairground Strollers and Showfolk" and details the family's rich history.
James' parents, Billy and Pearl were born in 1920s, and spent their lives within the industry, travelling the fairgrounds of London and Home Counties, before owning amusement arcades in Canvey Island (Essex) and then Burnham on Sea (Somerset).
As Billy's family grew and married, the amusement arcades were sold and Billy and Pearl retired to Farnborough, Hampshire in the 1980s.
James married Carol, who also came from a fairground family, in 1982, and they too travelled on the fairgrounds until deciding to settle down in the late 80s. They moved to Weymouth, Dorset in 1990, with their son, James Jnr. Their second son Henry was born that year and since then, they have been developing business interests in the Weymouth area.
Fun and Games is a new venture for the family which looks set to continue the family tradition, one in which they have a lifetime's knowledge and experience!
